Apparently, being a philosopher is the twelfth best job in the world. Mathematician is number one, and biologists, historians, sociologists and economists all rank as better jobs than philosophers. Most of the top twenty require degrees. The criteria used for judging them combines a number of factors: work conditions, energy and stamina required, how confined a workspace one works in, how competitive the work is, how stressful it is, income and so on. Interesting to see how people have taken something inherently subjective and turned it into a list that certainly feels objective.
