Some interesting news about JDK 7. Apparently, it’s a big tangled mess and the plan is to untangle it. That’s good. As I’ve said before, I really am enjoying living in JDK-land when it comes to programming. Being able to write Ruby (or, if I was so inclined, Python) and have it run on the Java stack or the C stack is pretty damn cool. Same goes for Mono and .NET. Obviously, Scala rocks my world. JDK7 getting dynamic language support is pretty cool. I have to say: Microsoft are actually doing something pretty cool here by forcing the Java community to compete and make their stuff better.

David Colquhoun: It seems to me to be self-evident that you cannot start to think about a sensible form of regulation unless you first decide whether what you are trying to regulate is nonsense, though this idea does not seem to have penetrated the thinking of the Department of Health or the authors of the Pittilo report
. Exactly right.
