Tom Morris

A pungent mix of programming, philosophy, pedanticism, procrastination, perplexity, peripheral political polemic, and platters of preposterousness.

P. Z. Myers is reporting that ID is going to be taught as ‘philosophy’ in California: “Topics that wlll be covered are the age of the earth, a world wide flood, dinosaurs, pre-human fossils, dating methods, DNA, radioisotopes, and geological evidence. Physical and chemical evidence will be presented suggesting the earth is thousands of years old, not billions.” As someone who studies philosophy, and who is in the process of planning a dissertation on the philosophical problems with design arguments, I really have to question what, exactly, this has to do with philosophy. And why, exactly, is a philosophy class being taught by someone whose qualifications are in teaching PE? This type of thing makes that rubbish, Of Panda’s and People, look like Stephen Hawking. Listen, IDers, you can’t try and pass your ideas off AS science or philosophy. You are asking to have it taught IN science or philosophy. You’re not allowed in the former, because you’re not making science. You’re allowed in the latter, but when you step in (and when you haven’t got a PE teacher doing it), you’re going to get eaten alive by people like me. And I’m a vegetarian, so that shows you how scary things are going to be if you’re going to try and play in the realm of philosophy. If you want someone who knows something about this subject, drop me an email and I’ll fly out to California myself and serve this incompetent woman a verbal arse-whipping and teach her students a thing or two about philosophy.
